Work of LESCO workers without safety equipment is painful : Kh. Ahmad Hassan

Lahore : Safety standards should strictly be observed while executing work on Lahore Orange Line Metro Train Project during the foggy weather in winter by ensuring provision of requisite equipment to the workforce.

Kh. Ahmad Hassan , Chairman of the Steering Committee for the project, directed this during the weekly progress review meeting, here, Wednesday.  “Doing work of LESCO workers on a height of 70 feet without safety equipment was painful. They must immediately be provided the required paraphernalia,” he stressed the point.

To avoid untoward incidents under such weather, he directed for using traffic police officials for escorting the precast structures for the project to the places of their launching. He called upon the Lahore Waste Management Company for paying special attention for the cleanliness of the areas where construction work was in progress as it was the primary function which must be carried out.

The meeting was informed that so far 56.6 per cent civil work on the project has been completed while progress on package onw from Dera Gujjaran to Chouburji was 72 percent. As many as 234 transoms and 189 U-Tub girders had also been launched along package one of the project. More than half of the construction work  on bridge on Lahore Ring Road near Dera Gujjaran has been completed while work on underground passage from Shesha Market Chowk to The Mall was also in full swing.

The meeting was told that The meeting was informed that the prequalified firms have been given another opportunity for filing their tenders by the 23rd of December for construction of a new storm water drain starting from Haji Camp at Nichelson Road and leading to the river Ravi via Lakshmi Chow, Chouburji and other areas. These tenders will be opened on 29th of December.

It was informed that there were a total of 2631 property tax units and 930 professional tax units along the route of Orange Line Metro train and policy was being finalized for providing relief to these affectees.

Chief Engineer TEPA, Saif ur Rehman, Senior Officials of LESCO, NESPAK, PTCL, SUI GAS and Railway, Chinese Contractor, CR- NOROINCO, Representatives of Chinese Engineering Consultant and Local Contractors of the project attended the meeting.
