Lahore : Head of Cricket Coaching Academies Sports Board Punjab Zaheer Abbas launched Sports Board Punjab’s third and women’s first cricket academy at Kinnaird College on Wednesday.
Director Sports Muhammad Anees Sheikh, Deputy Director Admin Tariq Wattoo, Principal Kinnaird College Rukhsana David and a large number of female cricket enthusiasts attended the opening ceremony. All the participating players were also introduced with Zaheer Abbas, who also captained Pakistan cricket team in Tests and ODIs. Zaheer Abbas also inscribed his views on the guests’ book on this occasion.
Talking to media at the opening ceremony, Head of Cricket Coaching Academies SBP Zaheer Abbas, who is popularly known as Asian Bradman, said the launching of women cricket academy at Kinnaird College is definitely a revolutionary step and it will help a lot in making future of cricket bright among the females of Pakistan. “We will launch more women cricket academies in the country,” he informed.
“Punjab govt as per the vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is taking serious measures for the shining future of sports in the province,” he said adding that the chain of SBP academies will prove to be a great feature in the history of national sports.
Zaheer said Director General Sports Punjab Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman is utilizing all of his energies for the promotion of sports in the province and his endeavours will bear fruit in near future.
Replying a question Zaheer, who also served as International Cricket Council (ICC) President recently, informed that the young players will also be taught manners and communication skills at the cricket academies.
He said that qualified coaches will impart training to female cricketers at Kinnaird College Academy. “Training youngsters as per modern requirements is our top priority. Our talented players will get international level training at these academies”.
It may be noted here that Sports Board Punjab’s first three cricket academies have been launched in Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Lahore and next academy will be inaugurated at Multan by Director General Sports Punjab Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman and Head of Cricket Coaching Academies Sports Board Punjab Zaheer Abbas.
