Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif inaugurates the Uber Rickshaw in Lahore

Lahore : After a successful car taxi service, Uber Pakistan has launched rickshaw service in Lahore. The Chairman Punjab IT Board Dr Umar Saif inaugurated Uber Rickshaw by taking the first ride at the Arfa Software Technology Park on Monday.

The Secretary Excise Punjab Ahmed Bilal, CCPO Lahore Captain Amin Wains, DIG Operations Haider Ashraf, Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Tayyab Cheema and Loic Amado and Uzair Yousaf of the Uber were also present at the event that also deliberated different operations of the new venture.

Dr Umar Saif said “Uber Rickshaw is another way of using technology to offer more choice and making life simpler offering cheap and safe mode of transportation. It will also help rickshaw drivers to enhance their earnings through modern technology. The initiatives like uberAUTO are a reflection of the way in which Lahorites will embrace the smart technology within transport industry. It is convenient, cheapest and the safest transport one had enjoyed ever. Moreover it is environment friendly as only 4-stroke rickshaws purchased under Chief Minister Green scheme will be accepted by the Uber. It is so affordable that one will be charged only Rs. 50 from Samanabad to Anarkali and Rs. 60 from Arfa Tower to Race Course Park”

Dr. Saif further said that the law enforcement department could leverage on data collected by Uber to ensure the security issues and curb crime in the city, which was endorsed by the senior police officers sitting there in the meeting. The CCPO expressed pleasure on launching of this service and remarked it as facilitating for police being secure, checked and online. He assured his utmost cooperation to make it a success.  The other officers also discussed anticipated concerns likely be raised in future by this service.

Zohair Yousaf said that riders who cannot afford an expensive car ride uber AUTO is the answer for them. Rickshaws are an iconic part of Lahore landscape and so they are excited to unveil another service from platform of Uber. Lahore has wholeheartedly welcomed progressive technology and smart transport solutions while introducing uber AUTO, Uber is contributing to the share of securing the rickshaw culture, he added.

Loic Amado stated that uberAUTO is our effort to expand Uber’s consumer reach for the Pakistani populace. He also informed that uberAUTO will be operating in compliance with Chief Minister Green Punjab Scheme.

All the participants of the meeting thanked Dr Umar Saif to liaison the meet with all department that have any stake in the service including police, excise and transport department. They said that PITB has always been enthusiastically participative of any initiative that offers to ensures security.
