We need to stand united for Pakistan: Dr Shahid Kamal

Lahore : Punjab University Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Kamal has said that August 14 is a great day in the history of Pakistan because Allah has bestowed us with independence after our ancestors’ everlasting sacrifices.

He was addressing the flag-hoisting ceremony on the Independence Day outside the VC Office, New Campus on Sunday. PU Registrar Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, Resident Officer-I Prof Dr Sajid Rashid Ahmad, Resident Officer-II Malik Muhammad Zaheer, Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Akram Ikram Shah, Faculty Deans, Heads of various departments, directors, principals, senior faculty members, Academic Staff Association and Syndicate members, employees and a large number of children were present on the occasion.

In his address, Dr Shahid Kamal said, “It is our moral duty to work together for country’s prosperity and protecting its heritage because Pakistan has been created with the efforts of Quaid-e-Azam & Allama Iqbal and millions of people sacrificed their homes and lives”. He said that it was necessary to promote education culture for the sake of peace and to eradicate terrorism from Pakistan.

Later, participants offered prayer for the progress and prosperity of the country and the Muslims. Sweets were distributed after the prayer ceremony. It is pertinent to mention here that PU was illuminated (Chiragan) last night (Saturday) to celebrate the Independence Day at various departments and hostels of Punjab University.
