We have dissected what happened at Manchester : Mickey Arthur

Mickey-ArthurLahore : Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur  said  that “There has been an overriding feeling of confidence. The guys have been excellent. We dissected what happened at Manchester and have had good conversations. We are ready to play.

“Speaking at a press conference head of the third Investec Test Match, Mickey Arthur said that “Yasir Shah can be a force on any surface. We thought he bowled too quickly at Old Trafford and we thought he should be bowling slower. In preparation for this match we have had a look at Cook and Root and we have spent our time wisely. We have worked hard and are ready for this test.

Asked about Younis Khan he replied: “Younis Khan works extremely hard at his game and is incredibly professional. He works on his batting and watches video tapes of his batting. He knows what he is doing and is ready. He has scored over 10000 test runs.”

Responding to a question about ben Stokes’ injury he said: “Ben Stokes will be a loss for England but we don’t dwell on what happens to England. He gives England balance and an edge. He is a tough not and runs in hard.”

Asked about Pakistan’s record at Edgbaston he said “It is irrelevant that Pakistan have never beaten England at Edgbaston. We are going to play the best we can and we know if we play good cricket we have a good chance of coming out on top.”

Ahead of the match he said “We have had discussion about the top of the order and we know what we are going to do. Its not for public consumption yet.”

Asked about Anderson’s record against Shan Masood he said “I don’t to subscribe to bowlers having anything over batsmen. It has been a worry when a trend develops and that is a job for support staff.

He continued: “We are going to have to raise our game considerably from Old Trafford. It’s how you lose and I was disappointed with how we lost at Old Trafford. We were upbeat at Lord’s and played with a real spirit and we were the opposite at Old Trafford. As a support staff we have stepped up our attitude to expect professionalism from the team.”

Questioned about England’s middle order problems he said: “Vince and Ballance are quality players but at this level confidence is a major thing. If we can get into them with the new ball we have a really good chance. Cook and Root are the beacon of England’s batting at the moment.”

He spoke about Hafeez’s return to bowling and said: “We did good work with Hafeez at Worcester and we are confident he is getting back to where he needs to be. So we are keen to get him back to give us balance. It will also help us in the one dayers.”

Finally he spoke about Umar Akmal and said: “Umar Akmal is a burning question. I haven’t had conversations with him. I hope he wants to play for his country and wants to be part of our set up.”
