Punjab government issues Motor Vehicle Ordinance to eliminate terrorism

Punjab Government LogoLahore : Punjab government has started work on a new project for eliminating terrorism from the province in accordance with the instructions of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.

Senior Member Special Monitoring Unit Law & Order, Salman Sufi told that Punjab government has evolved a comprehensive plan for elimination of fake number plates helping in assisting terrorism. Special Monitoring Unit Chief Minister’ Office and Excise & Taxation Department have launched a programme “Transport Facility Programme” which includes dealer registration of vehicles, purchase of coordinated transportation system, RFID technology and vanity plates.

He said that these plans will not only bring innovation in existing system but also stop to come unregistered vehicles to come on roads and give access to law enforcement agencies to the relevant material in a limited time period.

Therefore, keeping in view the recommendations of special monitoring unit, Excise & Taxation Department has issued Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance with the consent of Governor Punjab, under which, it will be compulsory for vehicle owners to fix approved number plates at their vehicles.

A maximum of one year and minimum of seven days imprisonment besides a fine of 15 thousand to one lakh rupees will be imposed to those making fake number plates, maximum of two years and minimum of 15 days imprisonment and a fine from 30 thousand to one lakh rupees will be imposed in case of damaging the patch issued by the number plate or the authority.

It is worth mentioning that transport facility programme is another people-friendly project of Khadim-e-Aala Punjab, which will not only help eliminate bogus number plates but Punjab will also be made safer for citizens and crime-free province.
