The Ist OGDCL 5-A Side hockey tournament starts from the 18th of June

Lahore: The Ist OGDCL 5-A Side hockey tournament starts from the 18^th of June at Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium. The eight day event promises a lot of excitement. In addition, there are festivities.

The six teams competing are all regional franchises so as to create extra interest: Islamabad Warriors, Lahore Lions, Karachi Sharks, Peshawar Panthers, Quetta Warriors and Faisalabad Falcons.

The matches will be played in flood light. Daily three matches are scheduled at 10.30pm, 11.30pm and 12.30am. There will be two rest days for the sides.  Special activities are scheduled on these days.                         

On June 21, three fun matches will be played: Veterans vs Under 14 girls, among two teams of under 14 boys and among kids from rising sun institute for special children.

June 23 will be celebrated as the Olympic Day. Again, there will be three exhibition matches: First of them named Families Festival will feature two sides made up from families. Second tie pits Show Biz team against Sports Stars (other than hockey) and the last will be between Media vs Ex Olympians.

5-A side hockey with 36 minute matches over three periods played on a pitch half the regular size under flood lights should be a fascinating spectacle and a wonderful entertainment.  Hockey is really fast with very few stoppages.

This is summer at its peak plus Ramadan. The matches are scheduled at 10.30pm, 11.30pm and 12.30am. All the national stars minus a few active in the Bangladesh league would be in action. The teams are managed by former Olympians.

With school and college holidays going on, one expects good crowds at the Ist OGDCL 5-A side flood light hockey tournament.
