Encroachment at Highways is a grave issueLahore: Encroachment is a grave issue and often causes traffic hurdles, serious accidents & loss of precious lives. National Highways & Motorway Police, Central Zone have launched a campaign to remove the temporary and permanent encroachments over the highway in coordination with NHA and Local Police.

The Patrolling Officers of N-5 Central Zone showed an active role during the campaign and successfully removed 249 temporary and permanent encroachments at a number of places.

Similarly in the Okara Sector 70, Multan Sector 10 and Rahim Yar Khan Sector 169.

Central Zone Managed 25 legal notices were served through NHA to all those who had encroached on national highways in the area of Beat-12 at milestone number 1229 Sundar, 1233, 1234 Maraka, 1235 Mohlanwal and 1239 Chung. After the expiry of the stipulated period, illegal structures will be removed.

DIG Mirza Faran Baig said encroachment caused fatal accidents on national highways.  He lauded the performance of N-5 Central officers and further advised them to put every effort to meet the high standards of professionalism to brighten the name of the department. DIG further directed to develop a close liaison with other agencies like NHA and district police for the smooth working of whole process. Before that people were asked to voluntarily remove encroachments from national highway within a week. Now after the expiry of grace period a comprehensive campaign has been launched to make the national highway encroachment free and facilitate the road users by providing them better conditions to drive.
