Siraj ul Haq discusses Karachi civic problems with CM Sindh

House Karachi, and apprised him of the numerous civic problems being faced by the people of the port city. JI Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeem ur Rahman, was also present.

Sirajul Haq told the Sindh Chief Minister that Karachi was mini Pakistan and its position would reflect the position of the country as a whole. He said that the mega corruption in the Karachi city government had engulfed all sectors and the local government was ruined due to political interference.

The JI chief pointed out that thousands of political workers had been recruited in the Karachi city government who were either drawing their salaries while sitting at home or were hiding in Dubai, Africa and other countries while their salaries were regularly being drawn from the public exchequer. On the other hand, thousands of educated young men were roaming about on the Karachi roads with degrees in their hands.

He said that most of the employees in the Karachi city government departments were illiterate but had been recruited due to their political links.  He said that the entire city government system of Karachi had collapsed due to the ghost employees and corruption.

Sirajul Haq also drew the attention of the Sindh Chief Minister to the miserable sanitary  conditions in the city besides the shortage of drinking water in the metropolis. He said that the provincial government was also partly responsible for these problems and called for its quick solution.

Referring to the problem of transport, Sirajul Haq said that the problem of public or mass transport in Karachi had grown most serious and the citizens had to face hardships in moving from one end of the city to the other.

The JI chief further sand that Karachi, once the most known as the city of parks and lights, had now turned into the city of garbage. Heaps of filth were lying at every nook and corner of the city emitting foul odder. He said that the city was producing about 12000 tons of garbage but there was no system for its removal.

The Sindh Chief Minister assured the JI chief that the provincial government would take all possible steps to solve these problems.
