White fly’s attack worries cotton farmers

Lahore: Minister for Agriculture Dr. Farrukh Javed has taken notice of news regarding white fly’s attack on cotton crop. The minister has directed the relevant staff of agriculture department to move in the fields immediately and guide the farmers in saving their crop. He instructed the staff to go directly to the crop, arrange permanent camps there and communicate with the farmers. He instructed to design a comprehensive strategic campaign to rescue the cotton crop from attacking white fly and other worms and larvae.

Dr. Farrukh Javed has said that cotton is an extremely important crop for agriculture economy’s growth and we cannot afford its loss this year. He said that national GDP sustained quite a significant loss last year due to damaged cotton crop. The provincial minister said that he himself will keep on visiting cotton crop areas and will address the farmers’ issues. He said that head and officials of agriculture filed and extension wing should immediately move to cotton fields and devise a comprehensive strategy on emergency basis to cop up with the issue. He said that no negligence will be tolerated in this regard and cotton must be saved from the attacking white flies.

The Minister instructed that an integrated campaign should be launched on war footing to save the crop and the agricultural economy. He said that last year cotton crop had suffered a huge loss due to which farmers are in a dilapidated condition and we must act progressively to save them from any further loss. He said that every possible measure to protect the crop through a coordinated campaign should be taken. Agriculture Minister said that he will inspect the crop himself and thus will not tolerate any kind of negligence.
