Government to set up Punjab University Campus in Mandi Bahauddin

Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal ): Mandi Bahauddin District has remained neglected since the end of PMLQ Government in 2008. Same year, Pakistan People Party won elections and formed government at centre where as PML-N formed government in Punjab. However in Mandi Bahauddin PPP swept elections as its all candidates at NA and PA seats were winners. So out of revenge CM Punjab gave step motherly treatment to people of this district. No development scheme was started.

In 2013 general elections all seats of NA and PA in this district were grabbed by PMLN and its government in Punjab continued. But to bad luck of this district Punjab Government did not focus on public welfare issues like education and health.  Surrounding district Gujrat has independent university namely University of Gujrat, Jhelum has Punjab University Campus, Sargodha has University of Sargodha but the Mandi Bahauddin is the only district where no university has been established as yet. Two years ago,  people were enthralled when Government college of Technology Rasul was upgraded as University of Engineering and Technology (Rasul) and classes started but after after two years the university was again downgraded to college.

This was very disappointing for the people of Mandi Bahauddin and particularly for the students who have to migrate to the other Universities located in Lahore and Islamabad .Because of absence of University the students belonging to poor families leave their studies halfway as their financial position does not allow them to study in other districts because of heavy expenditure of lodging and boarding.

During PMLQ Government new DHQ hospital with tertiary facilities was sanctioned and its construction was started but left halfway. Despite repeated requests of the people this project has not been completed and made functional so far and people have to travel to Lahore and Islamabad for treatment which being very expensive is beyond the reach of the poor. Former Chairman Municipal Committee Salahuddin Malak when contacted said performance of MPs from of this district had been disappointing as they paid no attention to problems and sufferings of the people and mostly remained busy giving contracts of development schemes to their cronies. Social circles have called upon government to set up Punjab University Campus in Mandi Bahauddin, upgrade the Rasul Technology College to the University of Engineering and Technology and completion of DHQ hospital project on priority basis.
