Lahore: The federal cabinet Wednesday strongly condemned the baseless allegations levelled by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) and its reference to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, which has now been retracted and acknowledged as an editing error.
The Federal Cabinet in its meeting here at the PM Secretariat demanded that the Consortium should fix responsibility and take immediate action.
A statement issued here said the Federal Cabinet reposed complete faith and confidence in the the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. The Cabinet also lauded that the Prime Minister has presented himself and his family before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, for accountability.
The Federal Cabinet also reiterated its resolve that the Pakistan Muslim League (N) would not let a handful of opportunists and anti-development elements sabotage Pakistan’s journey onto the
path of progress and prosperity.
A clarification by the ICIJ published in a local daily reads:”Due to an editing error, a sentence in an earlier version of this story implied that the prime minister of Pakistan controlled an offshore company that appeared in the Panama Papers. It is his children who control the offshore companies.”
