Punjab contingent clinch 14 medals including 7 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals

Lahore: The third day honours of First Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games also went to Sports Board Punjab athletes, who on Monday clinched 14 medals including 7 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Overall, the Punjab players put the rest of the opponents under pressure through some dominating performances.First Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games

In table tennis team event, Punjab’s Afzal outplayed Sindh’s Ahel by 3-1, Subhan beat Suleman of Sindh by 3-2 and Hamza defeated Ibrar of Sindh by 3-1. In the women event, Punjab’s Farwa, Saba and Anam defeated Sindh’s Iqra Javed, Ateeqa and Iqra to clinch gold medal.

In volleyball, SBP’s women team stormed into the final after defeating Sindh by 3-0 in the semifinal match. SBP’s men’s hockey team also booked a place in the final after trouncing Balochistan by 4-0. Ali Raza, Awais, Farman and Amir contributed one goal each for Punjab. Rana Nadeem Anjum was the manager of SBP team.

In athletics, SBP athletes under the supervision of manager Tariq Wattoo, scooped three gold medals – Adnan Jehangir in triple jump, M Zeeshan and Shahnawaz in discus throw. Danish finished third in discus throw to win bronze medal. SBP’s Daud Bhatti and Ismat ullah Niazi sprinted to silver medal in 300m race. Sports Board Punjab football team edged out Islamabad by 3-2 on penalty kicks.

Punjab’s women badminton team also won gold medal. In singles final, Ghazala thrashed Arfa of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while in doubles, Ghazala and Javeria defeated KP’s Arfa and Aala. In men’s contest, SBP team toppled KP to grab gold medal. Subhan, Abdal, Ahmed, Hamza Ikram, Hafeez Rehman and Ihtasham won their matches against their respective opponents.

In taekwondo competition, Laraib Mannan, Rabia Kiran and Shamshad Malik clinched silver medals while Laila Suman finished third to win bronze medal in the contest. Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah was the manager of SBP team.
