Lawyers of Mandi Bahauddin continued strike for second day against arrest of their colleague

Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) : Lawyers of Mandi Bahauddin district continued strike for second day as a protest against arrest of their colleague Muhammad Akram Advocate of Pindi Bahauddin.

Reportedly on Thursday morning local police raided residence of the advocate and arrested him with his two brothers and some servants on suspicion of their alleged involvement in murder of Dr. Shahid Nazir that took place about two months ago.

Learning about the raid, Lawyers filed petition in DSJ court on the ground that Akram Advocate was arrested and detained against law hence he should be got released from illegal police custody. The court appointed bailiff who went to Civil Line Police Station but in the mean time the police took the detainee on vehicle towards Malakwal side. Lawyers followed the police and on the way got the detainee released from police custody.

DPO Office, Police Station Sadar and Police Station Civil Line were contacted on telephone for details of the incident but officials there on duty pretended that they had no knowledge of anything about the incident. However on inquiring, some people of the area said that on revelations made by an accused under investigation at Chautala Police Station in district Jhelum, police arrested Advocate Akram and his other family male members.

After interrogation all detained persons were set free last evening but lawyers still remained on strike for the second day. It may be mentioned that during the last seven days strike was observed for five days. Litigants came to courts and went back disappointed over no progress of their cases.
