SBP contingent departs for Inter-Provincial Quaid Games

Lahore: Sports Board Punjab’s 310-member contingent left for Islamabad on Thursday to take part in First Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games 2016 scheduled to get under way on April 23 in the Federal Capital.

The contingent left for Islamabad under the supervision of Director Sports Punjab Hafeez Bhatti. Assistant Directors Waqas Akbar, Zahoor Ahmed and Public Relations Officer Abdul Rauf are also with the Sports Board Punjab athletes.

Director General Sports Punjab Usman Anwar, in a statement on Thursday, expressed his hope that Punjab athletes will show excellent performance in the Quaid-i-Azam Inter-Provincial Games. “Our players have also shown outstanding performances in the previous Inter-Provincial events and we are quite determined that our athletes will repeat the same heroic performance in the upcoming grand event”.

DG SBP Usman Anwar said Punjab athletes have been trained under the supervision of expert coaches in the week-long training camps. “SBP coaches and trainers, keeping in view tough competition in the Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games, put special emphasis on physical fitness and techniques of the players. The coaching staff also focused on enhancing the stamina and mental strength of the camp probables,” he added.

It’s pertinent to mention here that Sports Board Punjab players will take part in 13 games in the 3-day mega event such as hockey, boxing, badminton, karate, football, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, wrestling, squash, taekwondo, judo and athletics.
