People of Mandi Bahauddin demand early completion of development works

Mandi Bahauddin (Sher Gondal) : People of Mandi Bahauddin face three problems of urgent nature and they are completion of DHQ hospital project, construction of flyover on railway crossing and construction of road on Victoria Railway Bridge near Malakwal.

During their visits to Mandi Bahauddin rulers including former president Asif Ali Zardari, CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and others promised to initiate and complete work on these projects. DHQ hospital project was started about ten years back but the same was left half way due to probable paucity of funds.

Some people ascribe its delay to political rift between PML-N and PML-Q leadership as the project of hospital was sanctioned and started when Ch Pervaiz Elahi was the Punjab CM. However during CM Shahbaz Sharif’s two tenures several other development projects were started and completed but the hospital project was stayed ignored. Now under new development schemes year 1015-16 Rs 345.995 million have been allocated by Punjab government for sewerage and drainage scheme in urban area of Mandi Bahauddin. Sewerage and drainage system in Mandi Bahauddin city is already in working condition and it is functioning satisfactorily.

Therefore people of Mandi Bahauddin say that fund allocated for sewerage scheme may be diverted to the hospital project for its completion. Besides they say that completion of hospital is more important as compared to spending money for improving sewerage system.

Regarding fly over on railway crossing, it gets the second priority. Vehicle population has increased and great rush and traffic congestion is witnessed on Rasul Road especially when it is time of trains arrival/ departure. When the crossing is opened it takes one to two hours to restore smooth flow of traffic. Lot of time of commuters’  gets wasted in waiting. Victoria bridge over River Jhelum links three districts of Mandi Bahauddin, Sargodha and Jhelum with each other through railway.

The bridge had foot path that is also used by motorcyclists for crossing the river Jhelum. People of the three districts demanded of the government to construct concrete road on the bridge for vehicular traffic. The rulers committed to-do that and local MNAs/MPAs also assured the public that bridge would be modified for vehicles use as well. But so far nothing in this respect has been done.

Government should fulfill the above demands on priority basis to facilitate public life, the people demanded
