Awareness is needed about harassment law on workplace of women:Zakia Shahnawaz

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare and Environment Protection Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that there is a need of creating awareness among society about law for checking harassment on workplace of women. She said that Punjab government had passed this bill in 2012 but there is a need of implementation of this law and government institutions, social organizations and private sector should work jointly in this regard.

She expressed these views while presiding over an awareness seminar under the aegis of Provincial Ombudsman regarding elimination of harassment at women workplace, at Punjab Institute of Language, Art & Culture, here today. Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din was also present on the occasion.

Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that Punjab government will ensure implementation of law regarding protection of women rights at all costs. She said that there is also a need to create awareness among women in this regard so that they could consider themselves safe at their workplace. She said that we have to make the environment of workplace of women as safe and conducive so that they can play their important role in progress and prosperity of the country.

Representatives of civil society, members of NGOs and Dr. Farkhanda Waseem Afzal, Fouzia Waqar, Mumtaz Mughal and Bushra Khalid were also present on the occasion.
