Women were given their rights at their doorsteps in Pervaiz Elahi tenure: Khadeeja Umar Farooqui

Khadeeja Umar FarooquiLahore: To mark the International Women’s Day, a seminar was held at the Muslim League House here today under the chairmanship of Pakistan Muslim League Women Wing Punjab Organizer Khadeeja Umar Farooqui and an organizing meeting also took place which was fully participated by party women leaders and workers from all over the province.

Addressing the women’s gathering, Khadeeja Umar Farooqui said that process of PML reorganization is in progress throughout the province on the direction of PML leader Ch Parvez Elahi and this process should be completed at the earliest, all women should play their effective role in their respective areas for completion of reorganization process.

She said that Chaudhry Brothers had given due respect and honour to women who were given proper representation everywhere including National and Provincial Assemblies and the Senate, if this was continued then the circumstances today would have been different.

Regarding the International Women’s Day, she said that Islam has determined the rights of the women, the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) had accorded due respect and honour to women as mother, wife and sister, laws regarding women’s rights are quite sensitive and these require proper consideration and consultation, implementation of laws about the women should be ensured then no more legislation will be required.

It was demanded in the seminar that separate women’s courts be set up throughout the province and entire staff from the judge to medical staff be women so that obstacles in provision of quick justice to women be removed.

Seminar was also addressed by MPA Basima Chaudhry, Majida Zaidi, former MPAs Sameena Khawar Hayat, Parveen Sikander Gill, Kanwal Naseem, Lubna Tariq, Razia Sultana, Nighat Rana, Azra Naseem, Shamim Akhtar, Begum Zubeida Ehsan Chaudhry, Rukhsana Mehr, Samia Tariq, and Tabassum Naaz among others.

Sameena Khawar Hayat demanded that women’s quota in govt departments be increased to 20 per cent from 5 per cent so that they can become economically prosperous.

Amna Ulfat said that women had raised voice for their rights 200 years ago and we are today observing the International Women Day in continuity.

Begum Zubeida Ehsan Chaudhry said that women were given their rights during Ch Parvez Elahi tenure at their doorsteps.

Kanwal Naseem said that Pakistani women have reservations about some provisions of law regarding women’s rights. it would have been better if all parties were consulted prior to legislation on the bill, today ulema, religious and political parties are protesting against it, they must be heard.

Parveen Sikander Gill said that domestic violence is not just committed by men but women also indulge in violence against women and thus shatter domestic peace. She suggested that political parties should give 5 per cent quota to the women in the general election.

Lubna Tariq said that women had taken active part in the Pakistan Movement from PML platform and now they are playing their best role in building Pakistan.

Azra Nseem said that the rights and powers which PML had given to women during its tenure have now been snatched away by present govt.

Fakhra Khan said that division is taking place between men and women after passage of the Women’s Rights bill.

Nighat Rana said after Women’s Rights law, women’s difficulties are increasing, relation between husband and wife is of love, if wife puts “karra” on her husband then it will generate hatred and not love in the heart of man.
