Young doctors to focus on medical research to save masses from diseases: VC UHS

VC UHS Genral(r) Dr Muhammad AslamLahore: Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Gen. Retd. Muhammad Aslam has said that young doctors would have to bring positive change in their approach to cope with challenges of modern age. They should focus on medical research in order to save masses from diseases and establish a healthy society. He said that Prof. Khalid Mahmood, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital has played a pivotal role to earn good name for the organization.

He expressed these views while addressing the participants of 6th Annual Scientific Symposium 2016 held here at Post Graduate Medical Institute. With the topic “Excellence in patients care through perseverance”, the symposium was attended by ex principals of PGMI, faculty members and a large number of Ameer ud Din Medical College students. The participants also watched exhibition of books and posters on various medical subjects and issues.

Gen. Retd. Muhammad Aslam said in his address that doctors and paramedics can serve the humanity at the best level. He also said that he is proud of students of PGMI who are serving in the country and abroad as well. Prof. Khalid Mahmood said in his address that it is research in the field of medical science which can bring us at par with international standard of patient care. He said that on the direction of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif a modern research lab is being constructed at PGMI at a cost of Rs. 30 crore. He also told that PGMI is spending Rs. 1 crore annually only on research which reflects our focus on this department.

He also told that the Chief Minister has promised to release more funds for this purpose. He said that PGMI has been holding annual scientific symposium every year and it has developed into a good precedent over the years. This event provides opportunities to doctors to get knowledge about mutual experiences and also about new trends in medical science, he added.

It merits mentioning that renowned medical experts and senior professors are imparting knowledge and delivering lectures during the sessions of the above said symposium which is going to be concluded today on Thursday.
