Punjab government forms a committee for preservation of historical buildings of Lahore

ChoburjiLahore: Punjab government has constituted an 8-member consultative committee comprising prominent and impartial experts having long experience and high professional abilities for taking necessary steps for renovation, maintaining constructional beauty and further ensuring preservation of historical buildings of Lahore.

The Spokesman of Punjab government has told that Secretary Archeology Department, government of the Punjab Humayun Mazhar Sheikh has issued a notification of setting up of this committee under Antiquity (Amendment) Act 2012.

According to notification, Director General Archeology Punjab has been appointed Chairman of the committee while other members include Prof. Khursheed Ahmed (Visiting Professor National College of Arts Lahore), Khalid Abdul Rehman (Architect), Prof. Dr. Kanwal Khalid (Government College for Women Gulberg Lahore), Dr. Anjum Rehmani (former director Lahore Museum, Visiting Professor Government College University Lahore), Dr. Ayesha Pamila Rajar (Heritage Management Expert), Kh. Imran Nazir MPA and Engineer Qamar-ul-Islam Raja MPA.

The Spokesman told that this committee will present its proposals and recommendations to Punjab government for taking necessary steps for preservation of cultural heritage of Lahore.

He made it clear that Punjab government is discharging its responsibilities efficiently for preserving historical heritage of Lahore. He said that besides meeting all necessary requirements under the guidance of archeologists experts, technical expertise is also being utilized for preserving these buildings during Lahore Orange Line Train Project. He said that crores of rupees have been spent for acquiring additional land for keeping train track from these buildings at a safer distance.

It has been ensured that during implementation of Orange Line Train Project, these buildings should not be damaged, he added.

The Spokesman said that the members of special committee will inspect project documents and after visiting historical places, will submit its report to the government.

Earlier, members of the special committee visited various places on the route of Lahore Orange Line Metro Train.
