Lahore: A delegation of British police officials called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today. Training programme of Punjab police and prosecutors, reforms in police system and roadmap programme of rule of law were discussed during the meeting.
Talking to British delegation, the Chief Minister said that cooperation between Pakistan and Britain is increasing in education, health and other sectors besides improving police system. He said that Punjab government has launched a number of programmes for reforms in police system and training of police. He said that reforms in police system and transforming it in accordance with the aspirations of people is need of the hour.
He said that Punjab government will benefit the experiences of British police system for setting police system on modern lines. He said that we want to restore the confidence of people in police like the British people have in their police. He said that the scope of modern police stations starting from Lahore is being expanded throughout the province. He said that benefitting from modern technology is need of the hour to improve law and order situation and reduce crime.
He said that Punjab government is implementing Safe Cities Programme Project and after Lahore, this project will be launched in five big cities of the province.
Shahbaz Sharif said that Punjab government has set up the most modern forensic lab of Asia in Lahore. He said that facilities of police training are being increased at Elite Police Training School. He said that in order to reduce crime, dolphin force will soon start its work.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government has set up counter terrorism force equipped with modern training in the province. He said that elimination of terrorism and extremism is voice of the entire nation. He said that there is no room for extremism in Pakistani society. Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistani society is based on tolerance and forbearance where equal rights are available to all. He welcomed cooperation of British police regarding programme of making the cities safe. He said that we value British cooperation regarding improvement of police system.
Expressing their views, members of British delegation said that cooperation with Punjab government will be continued with regard to training of police and prosecutors and reforms in police system. They said that modern forensic science lab is an excellent project of Punjab government.
Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal, Inspector General Police, Secretary Home, Secretary Prosecution, concerned officials and representatives of British Department for International Development Ben French were also present on the occasion.
