Lahore: Punjab University teachers and employees took out a rally in support of Dr Mujahid Kamran’s pro education and pro research policies which helped established a political environments improved the world ranking of the university.
On the call of Academic Staff Association (ASA) the rally was took out from undergraduate block, New campus to Faisal Auditorium. ASA President Prof Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalam, Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain and Vice President Dr Abid Hussain Chaudhry led the rally which was also joined by a large number women teachers and employees.
The participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans such as “welcome Dr Mujahid Kamran”, “Thank You Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif”. The objective of the rally was to show strength against some teachers and employees who have established a so-called protest camp in front of the Punjab Assembly.
The participants said that these people were facing inquiries of their irregularities and they were joined by some suspended employees and hired people.
Addressing the rally ASA President Dr Hassan Mobeen Aalam said that Dr Mujahid Kamran uplifted the academic and research graph of the university which increased the varsity’s world ranking. “The interim appointment of vice chancellor by chief minister is very welcoming because we want continuation of the policies and universities development is a long-term process all over the world,” he said.
All teachers and employees of university were praying for his (Dr Mujahid Kamran’s) regular appointment as vice chancellor, he remarked. ASA Secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain said, “Dr Mujahid Kamran get the varsity rid of hooliganism of a de-facto student union making the environment apolitical. He made university strong economically and increased research grants many folds.”
He said the main objective of the rally was to give response to a few teachers and employees who have established a so-called protest camp outside PU.
PU Syndicate Members Aamer Ijaz and Hafiz Rafique Ahmed also lauded the services of Dr Mujahid Kamran and demanded continuation of his policies for further strengthening of research work and sustainability.
The representatives demanded chief minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif for regular appointment of Dr Mujahid Kamran on merit. They also prayed for peace and security of the country and academic institutions of Pakistan.
