Lahore: Provincial Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed ud Din has said that market training programme for four thousand women has been started under Punjab Skill Development Fund while 10 thousand women domestic workers will be imparted training under Domestic Workers Programme for their economic empowerment.
She was talking to a delegation of ILO/Canadian High Commission at Punjab Assembly, today. The delegation comprised Senior Regional Director for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Louis Verret, Leslie Tinney and Dr. Farhat Sheikh of Gender Advisor for Canadian Programme Support Unit.
Provincial Secretary Dr. Aamna Imam was also present on the occasion. Hameeda Waheed ud Din informed about the measures taken by the provincial government for the welfare of women, their economic uplift and protection besides the proposals for Women Package 2016. She also apprised the delegation of the training programme with the cooperation of ILO for domestic workers and the staff of daycare centers and working women hostels.
The Minister said that the government has started provision of soft loans under self-employment scheme. She said that loans worth Rs.4.8 billion have so far been provided and out of these, 40 percent loans have been given to the women of the province. Provincial Secretary Dr. Aamna Imam highlighted Women on Wheels campaign and steps taken for resolving transport problems of women.
The delegation appreciated the steps taken by the government for the betterment of women and assured its full cooperation in the training programmes for the economic empowerment of women.
