Col. (r) Dr. Jamshaid Ahmad Tareen passed away

Shahbaz Sharif offers fatihaLahore : The worker of the Pakistan Movement, Chairman of the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and member of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Board of Governors Col. (r) Dr. Jamshaid Ahmad Tareen breathed his last yesterday. His funeral prayers were offered at the Jamia Masjid Allah-o-Akbar, Phase 1, Defence, Lahore, by the following personages: Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Rafique Ahmad, Chief Justice (r) Mian Mahboob Ahmad, Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif.

The office-bearers of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust as well as a huge number of people from different walks of life participated in the funeral rites of the deceased. The office-bearers of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust, the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust and the Madar-i-Millat Public School, Shahadra laid flower wreaths on the deceased’s final resting place.

Col. (r) Jamshaid Ahmad Tareen had been ill for some time and passed away yesterday, leaving behind two sons, former federal Treasury Minister Shoukat Tareen and Silk Bank Chairman Azmat Tareen, and six daughters. The deceased was a close associate of Hamid Nizami and Dr. Majid Nizami.

His death has been termed as a huge loss by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust Chairman Muhammad Rafique Tarar, Vice Chairman Prof. Dr. Rafique Ahmad, Chief Justice (r) Mian Mehboob Ahmad, Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust  Chief Co-ordinator Mian Farooq Altaf, Justice (r) Mian Aftab Farrukh, Justice (r) Khalil-ur-Rehman Khan, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Ch. Naeem Hussain Chattha, Dr. M.A. Sufi, Begum Surayya Khurshid, Col. (r) Ikram Ullah Khan, Col. (r) Muhammad Salim Malik, Ch. Zafar Ullah, M.K. Anwar Baghdadi, Mian Muhammad Ibrahim Tahir, Prof. Dr. Parven Khan, Begum Safia Ishaq and Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust  Secretary Shahid Rasheed.

In their condolence message, these personages paid tribute to the deceased’s national services, prayed for the salvation and elevation of his soul, and also for the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude. The condolence message also said that the deceased worked for the dissemination of the ideology of Pakistan all his life. He rendered outstanding services for the welfare of the Pakistan Movement workers after assuming the office of the trustee of the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust on Nov. 28, 1998 and its chairman in August, 2009.

Col. (r) Dr. Jamshaid Ahmad Tareen was counted amongst the statesmen who worked tirelessly for the Muslim League and the Muslim Students’ Federation during the Pakistan Movement. He was one of the founding members of the MSF when it was founded in 1940 at the Emerson College, Multan, and, in 1941 at the F.C. College, Lahore, later on he was unanimously chosen its president. He was chosen the first General Secretary of the MSF at the K.E. Medical College in 1943. The same year, he was chosen member of the Executive Council.

He took an active part in the Civil Disobedience Movement. Many times he suffered police torture and had to go to prison. He worked day and night canvassing for the Muslim League candidate in the 1946 elections. He also worked for the rehabilitation of the refugees, providing them with the medical facilities as a medical student.

He had the honour of meeting the Quaid-i-Azam several times and the photos thereof can be seen in the picture gallery of the Pakistan Movement Workers Trust. He worked tirelessly for the establishment of Pakistan from the MSF platform. Having completed his education, he joined the Pak Army Medical Corps and served in East Pakistan.

He was stationed there when the Fall of Dhaka took place. He was a prisoner of war in India after the separation of East Pakistan. He assumed the responsibilities of the administrator of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after retirement from the Army and played a great role in the enlargement and development of this hospital. After that, he dedicated himself to rendering social and national services. The deceased’s “Rasm-i-Qul” will be offered at the Allah-o-Akbar Masjid, defence, Lahore on Wednesday January 20. The “Quran Khwani” will commence at 1:30 pm and “Khatm-o-Dua” will take place at 3:00 pm.

Meanwhile; Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has expressed deep sense oDIG Ehsan Sadiqf sorrow and grief over the death of Col ® Jamshed Ahmad Tareen, father of Shaukat Tareen, former Finance Minister and over the death of mother of Ehsan Sadiq, Regional Police Officer, Bahawalpur. He also condoled the death of mother of Shakeel Saeed, Senior Reporter, daily Express.

In his separate condolence messages, the Chief Minister prayed that may Allah Almighty rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant strength and courage to the bereaved families to bear the irreparable loss with fortitude.
