Govt to divide educational institutions into A and B categories for fixation of fees:Rana Mashhood

Rana Mashhood ahmed khanLahore: A proposal is under consideration for dividing private educational institutions into A and B categories for fixation of fees. The schools having monthly fees of Rs. 10 thousand or above will be included in A category while those having fees from four thousand to ten thousand rupees will be included in B category.

Provincial Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan presided over a meeting of school owners and members of parents action committee which was also attended by Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen.

The Minister said that after completion of gradation of schools, the rate of annual increase in fees of schools of both categories will be fixed. He said that the aim of government measures is to provide quality education to the children as well as ridding the parents of undue burden however, it is also not justified to create hurdles for private sector in free market economy.

He said it is the responsibility of government to stop private sector people to exploit other sections through monopoly. He said that action is being taken against educational institutions not implementing the law of freezing the school fees at 2014 level.

However, it is not proper to seal such schools as it will disturb the studies of students, he added. He said that before sealing educational institutions, all procedural action including issuing show cause notice should be completed. The members of parents action committee also presented their stance in the meeting.

The Minister said that the summary being sent to Chief Minister has been prepared in the light of proposals of the stakeholders.
