Lahore: A delegation of Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute, Rawalpindi, led by Maj. General Zahid Hamid visited Emergency Services Academy on Wednesday and inspected different emergency management stalls & techniques including Deep Well Rescue; Fire Fighting, Urban Search & Rescue, Rescue from Height, Hazmat Training, First Aid Stalls and repelling from height.
The delegation comprised of Commandant, AFPGMI & Course Director Maj. Zahid Hamid and 36 Student Officers, which was received by Registrar Emergency Services Academy Dr. Farhan Khalid and other academy staff.
The aim of the visit was focusing on imparting contemporary knowledge on modern concepts, practices, and techniques of health care management. Dr. Farhan Khalid briefed the delegation about origin & objectives of the Service, success story of Rescue 1122, emergency staff, training standards and set practices.
During their visit of training ground, Dr. Farhan Khalid further informed the delegation about urban search & rescue techniques, training equipment and standard operating procedures (SOP) of training and emergency operations. He said that Emergency Services Academy was collaborating with International Search & Rescue Advisory Group (INSRAG) for international certification and soon, Rescue 1122 would be capable to respond to major emergencies including earthquakes or structure collapses abroad.
Maj. Zahid Hamid and other participants of the delegation appreciated the technical emergency training being imparted among rescue cadets at Emergency Services Academy. While acknowledging the training standards, he said that indeed the participants of the course learned various imperative techniques and enhanced their knowledge while receiving valuable information about emergency management and search and rescue strategies.
Later, DG Rescue Punjab Brig. (r) Dr. Arshad Zia met Maj. Zahid Hamid and stated that doors of Punjab Emergency Service and Emergency Services Academy were always open for Pakistan Army. He said that in the time of need like Earthquakes, Collapse Structures etc, Rescue 1122 would be working shoulder-to-shoulder with Pakistan Army, as we did at Sundar Industrial Estate Factory Collapse.
