New Animals would be bought for the Lahore Zoo:Khalid Ayaz Khan

Director General Wildlife Khalid AyazLahore: Director General Wildlife Punjab Khalid Ayaz Khan has said that a 5-member committee has been constituted for the purchase of new animals and completing the pair of birds and animals in Lahore Zoo. He said that this committee will determine the prices of animals and birds after thorough research and scrutiny. He said that in the light of recommendations of the committee, a summary will be submitted to Chief Minister Punjab for final approval. He said that after provision of funds, process of purchase of animals will be started.

He said this while presiding over a special meeting in connection of shortage of animals in Lahore Zoo. All senior officers of the department were also present on this occasion. Khalid Ayaz Khan told that the 5-member committee comprises Director Wildlife Agha Aizaz Ibrahim, DG Wildlife (Retd.) & Member Management Committee Lahore Safari Zoo Park Dr. Abdul Aleem Chaudhry, former honourary Game Warden Punjab & Member Management Committee Lahore Safari Zoo Park Badar Munir, Director Lahore Zoo Shafqat Ali and Deputy Director Syed Zafar ul Hassan.

Khalid Ayaz Khan told that one female Ryinoceros, one male Hippopotamus, two female Red Deer, two female Asiatic Wolves, two male and four female Wallaby, two female Sika Deer, one male and two female black and white Colobous Monkey, two female Vervet Monkey, one male and two female Capuchin Monkey, two female Otter, two female Lama, one pair Guanaco, one pair African Chimpanze, one pair Land Tortoise, one pair Puma and Swinhoes Pheasant will be purchased. He said that the purchase of new animals included one pair black Leopard, one pair Giraffe, one pair Asian Orang Utan, one pair Hyanae whereas new birds one pair Crowned Crane, one pair Crowned Pigeon, one pair Scarlet Macaw and one male  and two female embrast phasenut.

DG Wildlife said that transparency will be observed in determining the prices and purchase of new animals and birds. He said that the recommendations of the committee after scrutiny will be made part of summary so that no one could raise finger to it. He further said that the conditions will be made strict for the purchase of animals and birds so that only good reputed local and foreign firms could take part in tenders.
