MS of all DHQ hospitals given targets for improving performance: Kh Salman

Khawaja Salman RafiqueLahore: Advisor on Health to Chief Minister, Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that medical superintendents of all DHQ hospitals have been given targets for improving performance of the hospitals and action will be taken against the concerned officers on not achieving the targets.

He said this while presiding over an emergent meeting of MSs of all DHQ hospitals at committee room of Health Services, today.

Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik, Director General Health Dr. Amjad Shehzad, Incharge Chief Minister Health Roadmap Team Aizaz Akhtar, Additional Secretary Health(Estt) Ezaj-ul-Haq and other officers attended the meeting. Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik addressing the meeting, said that government had released one billion and 25 crore rupees before the budget for improving working of DHQ hospitals but MSs of hospitals could not improve the performance of the hospitals substantially.

He said that all MSs will have to work hard. He said that indiscriminate action will be taken against the doctors and other staff for not giving full time and remaining absent from the duty. He said that strict action should be taken against the lethargic officials under PEDA Act otherwise action will be taken against concerned MS.

He said that if MS conduct round of the hospital in the morning and evening, then there is no reason that the affairs of the hospital should not be set right and performance improved.

All MSs of DHQ hospitals have been directed to ensure 100 percent availability of medicines, ensure attendance of doctors, nurses and other staff and take steps for cleanliness of toilets, labour room, operation theater, wards and other places. Secretary Health said that vacant posts of the staff should be filled and if officials do not work, the security and cleanliness system should be outsourced. He said that all DCOs have been directed to provide District Governance Funds according to the demand of the hospitals. In addition, provincial government will also provide funds and support, he added. He said that Class-IV employees can also be recruited on work charge basis and MS is fully empowered in administrative matters.

The meeting was told that monitoring teams of Chief Minister Roadmap programme will visit four times in a month to every DHQ hospital and special attention will be paid to the cleanliness and photographs will be taken on the occasion. Biometric has already been started for the attendance of doctors and nurses and availability of medicines.

Kh. Salman Rafiq said that MS of all hospitals should improve their performance and create patient-friendly atmosphere in the hospitals. He said that Chief Minister Punjab will personally conduct stock taking of all hospitals, therefore, MSs should remove shortcomings in the hospitals to save themselves from any disciplinary action.
