The lawlessness is a biggest hurdle in national development:Sirajul Haq

Pic Sirajul HaqLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that the rulers were eager to implement only those articles of the constitution as enhanced their powers and prolonged their rule but they were blind to the articles relating to the rights of the general public.

Speaking in the Senate on Wednesday, he said that in spite of tall claims, the government had done nothing for child protection not provided relief to the quake affected people which were lying in the open in the extreme cold. He said that war footing efforts were required to protect the people against natural calamities.

Sirajul Haq said that the rulers in Islamabad had development plans for the Punjab capital for the next hundred years but they were not bothered about the development the other provincial capitals, Peshawar, Quetta or Karachi. He said that some provinces and areas had remained backward only because the federal capital had deprived them of their share of resources. He said, that equitable distribution of resources alone could ensure over all development of the country.

The JI chief termed the lawlessness as the biggest hurdle in national development. He said that the developed countries had saved themselves from war but unfortunately, Pakistan had been facing war situation and dissention for years due to which there was large scale destruction and the nation was divided and in disarray.

Sirajul Haq further said that under article 31 of the constitution, it was the responsibility of the state to promote the Quranic teachings and to declare Islamic studies as a compulsory subject.

However, he said, on the contrary, the slaves of the British ruling the country had prepared a policy to adopt English as compulsory subject and drop the Quranic teachings from the study courses.

Besides, he said, under article 536 of the constitution, the state was responsible for the protection of the life and property of the minorities but the government was a total failure on this score.

Referring to the working of the Election Commission, he said ha the ECP had withheld the result of constituency PK 95 for the last six months and said this amounted to denying the people heir lawful rights.
