Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the courses at the religious madrissahs must conform with the requirements of the modern times in order to serve as the custodians of Islamic teachings and values. He was addressing the Ulema and students of the Nazmul Madaris al Islamia, Sher Garh, Mardan, at its annual convention.
The JI Secretary General referred to the writings of eminent Ulema and Muslim scholars including Mufti Muhammad Shafi, Maulaan Syed Abul Ala Maudoodi, and Maulana Syed Suleman Nadvi, to high light that the Ulema, Madrissah teachers and students had to play leading role in the education and mental upbringing of the Muslims masses in social, political, economic fields. As such, they should not remain aloof from modern knowledge and trends because the Islamic system was to be enforced in the modern era and not in the ancient times.
Liaqat Baloch underscored the need for the unity of the Ummah and said that the faithful must broaden their vision and inculcate the qualities of tolerance and large heartedness in order to effectively face the colonial and anti Islam forces.
He condemned the terrorist activities during Muharram ul Haram at Bolan and Jaccobabad on Ashura . However, he said that the overall situation in the country had been peace during the Ashura as the religious forces were alive to their responsibility for maintaining sectarian peace and harmony.
