Lahore: The Milli Yakjehti Council a conglomeration of religious parties, has impressed upon the government to take all possible measures to maintain peace in during Ashura Muharram and also ensure total impartiality of the state machinery on this occasion.
The Council which met at Mansoora noted that Muharramul Haram, was the first month of the Islamic calendar, and was sacred for the entire Ummah because of the martyrdom of second Caliph Umar and the grandson of the Holy Prophet Imam Husain and the tragic events at Karbala. As such, special efforts should be made to promote the feelings of love and brotherhood, tolerance, unanimity and harmony among the masses. It said that the Muslim world should unite against the conspiracies of the Zionists, Hindus and other anti Islam forces.
The council formed a 13 member committee to monitor the speeches of Ulema, Khatibs and Zakirs with a view to maintaining peace and harmony during Muharram. It also urged the scholars and Ulema and Zakirs to appeal to the nation for maintain total peace on the occasion.
The Council directed the conciliatory committee looking in to the Yuhanna Abad and Kot Radha Kishan tragedies and the arrests of innocent people from different faiths , to prepare its recommendations for the release of the innocent people from all sides.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Liaqat Baloch said that it was the duty of the government to make sincere efforts to maintain peace during Ashura and to prevent all forms of mischief. He also stressed that a monitoring cell be set up look into the activities of the mischief makers trying to create dissension among the Umamh through the social media and demanded legislation to punish a such elements. It se constituted a committee to six member committee to prevent the spread of hate material on the social media.
Liaqat Baloch said that the death sentence had been announced to Mumtaz Qadri under foreign pressure. He said that Pakistan was being governed by the Islamic law and not the British law, Therefore, the killer of a blasphemer could not be given death sentence.
