Lahore: Director General Health Services Dr. Zahid Pervez has taken news items regarding the sale of sedative drugs and tranquillisers at medical stores of different areas of Lahore without doctor’s prescription and directed crackdown against such medical stores who are involved in this illegal activity.
Director General Health Punjab has directed the EDO health Lahore Dr. Zulfiqar Ali to take immediate action against illegal business of sedative medicines. He directed to launch crackdown against such medical stores who are selling medicines without doctor’s prescription and without license. He directed that record of selling of such drugs should also be checked during the surprise visits.
Meanwhile;Dr Michel JJ Thieren Country Chief of World Health Organization Pakistan Office along with Dr Ahmadd Jamshaid WHO Operations Officer Punjab visited Directorate General Health Services and met Dr Zahid Pervaiz Director General Health Punjab, here today. A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr Zahid Pervaiz DG Health to discuss technical support by WHO in the health sector. The WHO’s plan to install video conference link in the Punjab Health Department and prequalification of drug manufacturers was discussed. Dr Zahid Pervaiz DG Health appreciated WHO’ role and technical assistance to the Punjab Health Department in polio eradication and prequalification of drug manufactures and desired to speed up the pre-qualification process as Chief Minister Punjab is very keen to ensure quality assured drug supplies. Dr Ahmad Afifi Director Health Services Head Quarter highlighted importance of technical support area by WHO to upgrade provincial unit for communicable disease control. Dr Michel promised to provide full length support to speed up the process. He also offered all kinds of technical support to the government of the Punjab.
