Lahore: Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department has vetted the draft law of BTA Act 2015 prepared after long discussion of technical committee set up by Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif for making Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority effective and vibrant for ensuring provision of screened blood to the patients free from diseases and eliminating business of substandard blood banks from the province. The draft law will be presented in provincial cabinet meeting for approval.
Spokesman of Punjab Health Department told that the department has proposed amendments in the rules of business of Blood Transfusion Authority under which BTA will be regulatory body under Health Department Punjab. The spokesman further said that BTA was constituted in 1999 under an Ordinance and Punjab Health Department had re-notified it in 2014.
He said that the aim of setting up of Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority is to regulate the service of blood transfusion and blood banks so that screened blood could be provided to the patients. He said it is essential that the blood being provided to the patients by blood banks should be free from hepatitis-B, C, malaria and HIV-AIDS.
The spokesman further said that after vetting of draft of Punjab Blood Transfusion Safety Act 2015 by Law & Parliamentary Affairs Department, it will be presented in provincial cabinet meeting for approval. Later, Punjab Assembly will make legislation in this regard.
