Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the construction of new dams was unavoidable to control floods and for generation of cheap electricity.
He stressed that work of major dams including Bhasha and Dasu dams should be begun forthwith and new dams should be made a requisite in the power generation projects with China. He was addressing the participants of the JI central workshop for party workers at Mansoora.
Liaqat Baloch said that the rain water was causing vast destruction all over the country and flowing into the sea and going waste while the authorities remained indifferent. He said that water was a requisite for agriculture while electricity was essential for industry and shortage of electricity power was bound to ruin agriculture and industry.
The JI Secretary General said that each and every page of the Judicial Commissions report was speaking that the elections were not transparent. He said that although all the parties had accepted the Judicial Commissions report yet the differences remained there. Therefore, all parties should join hands for bringing about electoral reforms.
He also urged the parties to unite against corruption, target killings in Karachi and terrorism. He said that across the board accountability was essential to weed out corruption and misuse of public money.
He said the nation wanted to see the logical end of the operation in Karachi. He said there were good people in the MQM who were being exploited in the name of Mihajir.
