Govt to construct Kalabagh dam for ensuring permanent safety from flood: Ch Pervaiz Elahi

Ch Pervaiz ElahiLahore: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi has expressed heartfelt sympathies to the flood effected people throughout the country including South Punjab and Chitral and said that the rulers instead of merely doing statement mongering and dramas even over floods should construct Kalabagh dam for ensuring permanent safety of the people from flood.
In a statement issued here today, he said that construction of Kalabagh dam is immediate and permanent solution of overcoming electricity crisis, water shortage for irrigation and massive losses of hundreds precious human lives, crops and properties worth billion of rupees in all the four provinces every year could be saved by controlling the floods.
He said that the occupant rulers in the Punjab have not done anything this year also for controlling floods and poor people are living under open sky in Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan Sadiqbad, Alipur and other areas crying over losses of their houses, crops and livestock and inefficiency of the govt.
Paying rich tributes to the military leadership, officers and jawans of the Pak Army for carrying out relief and rescue operation in floods hit areas he said that the rulers should do something practical instead of mere announcements.
Ch Parvez Elahi that the water which goes out of control and causes vast devastation can be stored and used for progress, development and prosperity of Pakistan, only in last four years more than 30 billion dollars loss has been caused by the floods to the national economy besides about four thousand people had perished whereas present estimate for construction of Kalabagh dam is nine billion dollars, from this dam not only 3600 megawatt of electricity at the rate of Rs 2. 50 per unit can be generated but also Sindh can have four million acres feet (MAF), Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah 2. 2 MAF, Balochistan 1. 5 MAF and Punjab 2 MAF additionally for irrigation meaning thereby that from agricultural point of view Sindh and Khyber Pukhtoonkhwah will benefit more than Punjab from construction of Kalabagh dam and every year precious 40 MAF water going into the sea as waste can be stored and used for turning lakhs of acres of land in all four provinces which present a look of desert due to lack of water into green pastures.
