British Council Launches Active Citizen Program at Punjab University

1(1-7-15)Lahore: With the collaboration of the British Council and Higher Education Commission, Punjab University has launched Active Citizens program to increase engagement of students with community and society at large.

In this regard, an orientation session was organized here on Wednesday at the seminar room of the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies in which selected faculty members of eight departments participated.

Addressing the session, Dean Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Zakria Zakar said that the main focus of the program was to develop the capacity of the faculty and students to develop cross-cultural communication and intercultural dialogue. He said that the initiative would also help students and young faculty members for project planning, implementation and enhance effective role of youth in community development. He termed the program extremely useful for the development of vibrant, peaceful, humanistic, tolerant and egalitarian Pakistan.

The participating departments include Law College, Centre for Undergraduate Studies, Institute of Chemistry, Department of Botany, Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Institute of Agricultural Sciences and Institute of Social and Cultural Studies.

The focal persons of the program, Rahla Rahat and Asma Yunus, welcomed the British Council team and assured full cooperation from the university administration for the success of the program. The resource persons from British Council gave in-depth briefing on the aims, objectives and methodology of the program. The orientation session will be followed up with faculty training in September.
