‘GCU pioneer of Nano-chemistry in Punjab’

GCULahore: The Government College University, Lahore has become pioneer of Nano-chemistry in Punjab with the establishment of high-tech Nano-chemistry Laboratory (NCL) and United States-registered patents in the field, said Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and NCL Director Dr Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh during an e-meeting with eminent scientists of the country to have their input to develop a strong scientific base at GCU for research and development in the field of Nano-science and Nanotechnology.

In his message, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Scientist (Emeritus) Prof Dr N.M Butt said that Nano-technology had remained an ignored area of research in the country despite the fact that it had an ample scope of applications to our industries in Sialkot and Faisalabad apart from other types of industries like paints, civil industry, auto and chemicals. He said in Karachi they had a Nano-chemistry laboratory and probably no other university had concentrated on it as yet.

The Vice Chancellor said that GCU was going to hold a workshop on Nano-science and Nano-technology in July this year to review the developments of nanotechnology in Pakistan, what had been done in research and development and what was the possibility of applications in Industry and what should be the strategy from now for drawing the maximum benefits from this globally influencing technology for all nations of the world.

Eminent Physicist and Professor Rafi Chair Dr Muhammad Zakria Butt highlighted the need to involve the Pakistan’s industry in this so suitable technology for delivering the socio-economic benefits to our nation. He said that GCU had attached its Nano-chemistry Laboratory with Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization for speedy dispensation of funds and strict monitoring of the research development.
