Lahore: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has launched the pilot project of phonics in six selected partner schools in Lahore. These schools are attached with the PEF under its Foundation Assisted School (FAS) program of free education for the needy children.
The orientation session was held on Tuesday at PEF head office to handover books and resources to the selected schools.
The Managing Director PEF Dr. Aneela Salman has welcomed the launching of this project and hoped that this would greatly help to improve the academic standards of the partnering schools. This project is first of its kind which would ensure marked improvement in teaching methodology.
Phonics is a method for teaching, reading and writing of English language by developing learners’ phonemic awareness. The material is given by a foreign firm to be taught to grade one students to improve their reading skills. Baseline survey, teachers’ trainings and assessments will also be conducted to review changes in students’ reading skills.
She hoped that this project will greatly help to promote synthetic phonics teaching principles which would empower students to apply taught-knowledge and skills to their independent reading, writing and spellings. She further said that this project is a part of PEF’s vision to provide good quality education to the partnering school students so that they can use this vital support to excel in their practical life. She hoped that this resource will benefit both students as well as teachers.
The ceremony was attended by Directors Bushra Saeed khan & Iftikhar Rabbani, besides Manager (Trainer) Fatimah tuz Zahrah, school partners and concerned officials of the foundation. On the occasion, school partners thanked the MD PEF for giving this latest resource free of cost.
