Cultural and Interfaith Documentary for Parliamentarians to be launched on May 12

Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, MNALahore:  A video documentary, under the title “The Story of a Banyan Tree: 9000 Years of Spiritual Heritage of Pakistan “, jointly organized by Pakistan Hindu Council and Mehergarh, is scheduled to be launched for Parliamentarians, on Tuesday (May 12) at Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) at 5:30 PM. According to a press statement issued by Pakistan Hindu Council, the ceremony will be open to media and a number of parliamentarians from both houses will grace the ceremony.

Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, Member of National Assembly, who is co-hosting the documentary launching to acknowledge Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage and address the need of interfaith harmony in collaboration, said that the Cultural Heritage of Pakistan is spread over the centuries, starting from pre-historic times to the present day.

“While Pakistan suffers from religious extremism, sectarian violence and militancy, the country also has a tremendously rich and ancient spiritual heritage that is often overlooked. It is essential for Pakistanis to identify, reconnect with and nurture their spiritual roots, essential elements of which are still evident in their everyday lives,” said the statement.

The story of a Banyan Tree is a documentary that takes a look at the 9000 years of spiritual heritage of Pakistan with layers of religions and cultures that co-existed and amalgamated into a tolerant society.  The essential elements of this heritage are still evident in the everyday lives of the people of Pakistan and could become significant to find solutions to the current state of affairs in the country.
