Lahore: Former Governor of Punjab and Senior Member Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Ch Muhammad Sarwar highlighted the growing statistics of violence on women in Punjab. He said, “Violence in Punjab has become a very serious social issue. It has not only shaken the public’s confidence in the police force but also public prosecution office. There are no social services policies and crime goes unnoticed. A quarterly census of 2015 in Punjab revealed an alarming 538 rape / killing of women and children. These are reported figures. The numbers must surely be higher as not all rape crimes are reported. Government must address the growing number of crimes against women and children”.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Former Governor emphasised that around 11,000 murder cases are reported to police stations. This number is only a rough estimate of the widening crime bracket. The Government needs to be transparent and share the number of murderers who are actually put behind bars without bail.
In a conclusive statement, Mr. Sarwar said, “The government should develop an effective & fool proof prosecution system and punish bribery in the police force so that criminals are put behind bars and punished for their crimes.
