Lahore: Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Dr. Umar Saif has said that increasing volume of technology based public welfare projects in Punjab envisage immense opportunities for co-investment from local and global investors. If supported by the investors, the Punjab Government may extend such welfare projects to larger population.
He was talking to a delegation of Chinese mobile company Zong in his office on Wednesday.
The delegation comprised of Chief Executive Officer of Zong Mr. Liu Diang Fen, Head of Enterprises Service Solutions Pakistan Mr. Li Chun, Chief Govt. end Corporate Solutions Mr. Niaz A. Malik and Head of new Corporate Business Mr. Berkatullah.
Briefing about the ongoing projects, Dr. Umar Saif told that PITB was using information and communication technology successfully in solving the complex issues pertaining to the major government departments such as health, education, police, Board of revenue, Irrigation, Livestock and agriculture etc.
He said that above mentioned projects plus PITB’s Plan9 and provision of free wifi service in major cities have great potential of co-investment. Dr. Saif suggested that joint venture with the Zong may accelerate the Punjab Public Reform Program that is aimed at improving the service delivery of major public sectors in Punjab. He assured of his utmost cooperation to the Chinese delegation for initiating IT based projects in collaboration with the PITB.
Mr. Liu Diang Fen, lauding the achievements of PITB told that his company in collaboration with the Chinese government had already accomplished sizeable public projects using smart applications in traffic control and free wifi service in Beijing hence a number of projects could be run jointly in Punjab.
He exchanged his views on many other bilateral issues relating to use of technology in governance and public service delivery. Dr. Umar Saif presented him a set of PITB publications while Mr. Diang Fen presented him a memento from the Zong.
