OASIS School organizes exhibition in wake of World Autism Day

Salman ShabazLahore: On the occasion of World Autism Day, a special exhibition of art and photography was held at OASIS School, the only institution for the children suffering from this disease in Pakistan. Masterpieces prepared by the girl and boy students of the school were displayed in the exhibition. Chief Minister’s son Salman Shahbaz Sharif, Member Provincial Assembly Tahia Noon, parents of the children studying in the school and a large number of students of different universities and educational institutions of the city were present on the occasion.

Chief Executive of the School Ayesha Haroon and Principal Samreena Anwar gave briefing to the girls visiting the exhibition about the education and training of the children victim of Autism and making them acceptable and useful part of the society. The girls appreciated the creative abilities of autistic children.

Talking to media Salman Shahbaz appreciated the performance of Oasis School running by Oasis Trust and said that unfortunately there is no facility or institution in public and private sector for the education and training of autistic children in Pakistan.

He said that under the guidance and patronage of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Ayesha Shahbaz Sharif and her team has set up this world standard institution for the autistic children which is moving forward with the help of donations by philanthropists, Sharif family and friends. He said that Oasis is the only institution of its kind which has been set up as a noble mission in Pakistan where autistic children are treated and provided training and guidance.

Salman Shahbaz said that philanthropists and well to do persons should move forward and become the part of mission against Autism and help in the establishment of such institutes where special children should be motivated to lead full life.

It may be mentioned that Oasis was set up in April 2010 and help of autistic persons is impossible without the collective efforts of their families, society and experts. He said that the experts motivate autistic children towards performance in normal manner through speech and language therapy, physiotherapy, behavior therapy, occupational therapy, play skill therapy, music therapy and art therapy. Training of such children is performed under a famous programme of the world TEACCH.
