Three years’ hard work changes scenario in SBP: Usman Anwar

Usman Anwar, Director General Sports Punjab Lahore: The great and hectic efforts rendered during the last three years in Sports Board Punjab (SBP) have started to bear the fruits in shape of dozens of Guinness World Records and medals in kabaddi and other sports, these views were expressed by Usman Anwar, Director General Sports Punjab in an interview here on Saturday at National Hockey Stadium.

DG SBP Usman Anwar said the record breaking sports achievements of SBP during the last couple of years had a major role in building positive image of Pakistan across the world. “ISO’s performance certificate, three editions of grand sports festivals, our players’ participation in Guinness World Record shows in Italy and encouraging performances of national men’s and women kabaddi teams are clear proofs of our outstanding performance,” he added.

To a question DG SBP said until a couple of years ago, sports were nowhere in Sports Board Punjab but now the situation has changed altogether and anyone can feel the difference. “We, not only introduced but implemented discipline and merit in all our departments. The number sports events including mega Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) are enough to gauge our performance and commitment”, he explained.

Answering another query, Usman Anwar told that bringing masses into sports activities were one of our mottos and fortunately we managed to engage millions of people in sports events during a short span of time. “As many as 12 lakh people featured in 2011 Sports Festival followed by participation of 32 lakh and 48 lakh masses in 2012 and 2014 Punjab Youth Festival editions respectively which was a great success for all of us,” DG SBP elaborated.

“As far as discipline is concerned, our potential youth have demonstrated wonderful attitude while making world’s largest human flag and national anthem events at National Hockey Stadium. Even foreign experts lauded our disciplined youth for this massive performance,” he added.
