CM seeks improvement in intelligence system

CM Punjab-1Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here today which reviewed overall law and order situation and the tragic incidents that took place in Youhanabad.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the whole nation is grieved over Youhanabad tragedy and the incident of burning two persons to death is highly deplorable. He said that the elements involved in these tragic incidents will be brought to the law and all demands of justice would be fulfilled.

The Chief Minister said that Pakistan is in a state of war and the situation demands emergent measures. He said that improvement of intelligence system is of vital importance and the need for activating and capacity-building of Special Branch is more than ever. The meeting also decided to take immediate measures for harmonizing Special Branch with the demands of the modern age as well as build its capacity.

The Chief Minister directed that training of intelligence officers on modern lines be arranged. He further directed that a practicable project for the reorganization of Special Branch be presented as early as possible and rapid progress be made in this regard. He said that Punjab government has set up a fully trained Counter Terrorism Force on modern lines and its second batch will soon pass out. The Chief Minister also gave approval to the service structure for the speedy promotion of corporals on the basis of their efficiency. The meeting also decided to set up a separate state-of-the art intelligence school for Counter Terrorism Department.

The Chief Minister directed that the standard of this school should be even better than those of developed countries. While issuing instructions for all out measures for the protection of life and property of the citizens, the Chief Minister assured that resources will continue to be provided for this purpose.

Provincial Ministers Col. Retd. Shuja Khanzada, Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Member National Assembly Hamza Shahbaz, Members Provincial Assembly Rana Sanaullah, Syed Zaeem Husain Qadri, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretaries of Home, Prosecution and Information departments as well as concerned officers were present.
