PU’s 67th intercollegiate women championship begins

Lahore: Punjab University’s 67th Intercollegiate Women Championship has begun at Punjab Stadium here on Wednesday. PU’s Chairman Hall Council Prof Dr Muhammad Akhter, Acting Director Sports Shamsa Hashmi, teachers, officials and female players from PU’s constituent colleges and affiliated colleges from Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sharaqpur, Okara and other cities participated in the event.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Muhammad Akhter said that it was good to see female players in a big number because our women equal to men. He said that the countries that give importance to sports had healthy societies. Shamsa Hashmi said that PU would continue to play its role in promotion of sports and PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran had always encouraged sports activities on campus. On the first day, competitions of shot put, high jump, triple jump, long jump, javelin throw and different race were held. The prize distribution ceremony will be held on Thursday (today) at 12 noon in which Dean Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences Prof Dr Ehsan Malik will distribute prizes among the winners.

Dean Faculty of Law and Principal University Law College Prof Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi has said that sports were the source of bringing positive change in human life. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of PU Law College’s 137th annual athletic meet at the college’s ground here on Wednesday. President PUASA & Principal Hailey College of Commerce Dr Hassan Mobeen Alam, Incharge Institute of Communication Studies Dr Noshina Saleem, female heads of various institutions, faculty members and a large number of players were present on the occasion. Dr Shazia Qureshi said that students were participating in the competitions with enthusiasm and it was the best activity to use their energies and potential in positive manner. She said that the university administration was supporting players for promotion of sports.
