Lahore: Punjab University’s 118th Inter-collegiate athletic meet concluded here on Friday with PU Teaching Department’s grip on team trophy while Farhan Haider of Institute of Business and Information Technology’s Farhan Haider was declared best athlete of the tournament.
The concluding ceremony was held here at New Campus Ground in which Dean Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences Prof Dr Muhammad Ehsan Malik, Acting Director Sports Shamsa Hasmi, Chairman Hall Council Dr Muhammad Akhter, Farhat Hussain Siddiqui, officials and a large number of affiliated colleges’ players were present on the occasion.
In his address, Dr Ehsan said that sports were important element of life and a healthy diet could improve performance of the players. He said the efforts and exercises of players never went in vain. He congratulated the winners and said that they were the future of Pakistan so they must contribute to the prosperity of the country. Shamsa Hashmi said that the incumbent administration under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran had always extended its support for promotion of sports activities and that’s why our ranking in sports had increased manifold and PU players were setting new records.
Various competitions of race, discus throw, hammer throw, long jump etc were held in the event in which PU Teaching Department’s team have won Team Trophy with 189 points and a student of Institute of Business & Information Technology Farhan Haider was declared Best Athlete with 41 points. Akhwan Science College Burki got 2nd and Govt College Jhang clinched 3rd positions respectively. Later, prizes were distributed among winners.
