Sharif Medical City observes World Kidney Day

OPS President Azeem KasuriLahore: World Kidney Day-2015 was celebrated at Sharif Medical City Hospital Lahore today.

Prof Junaid Sarfraz Khan Pro-Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences was the chief guest.

Prof. Brig. (R) Zafar Ahmad, Principal Sharif Medical & Dental College presided over the inauguration.

On this occasion, free medical screening camp was established outside the Medical Out Patient Department. More than 1000 patients were examined by specialist doctors of nephrology. They were tested free of cost for blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol and uric acid.

Later, in the public seminar, Prof. Mahmood Ali Malik Physician and Prof. Tahir Shafi Nephrologist addressed the participants. They explained that the main reasons of kidney failure are hypertension and diabetes mellitus. People can stop injury to kidneys by adopting healthy life style and controlling their blood pressure and blood sugar.

Theme of World Kidney Day-2015 is “Kidney Health for all”. World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of kidneys, reducing the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated health problems worldwide which are celebrated by joint initiative of International Society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundations. Motions on this occasion are a sign of its deep belief on creating and spreading awareness regarding chronic renal diseases which are common, silent and dangerous but easy to detect and treat in early stages.
