Lahore: Provincial Minister for Women Development, Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din has said that the government is taking effective measures for economic empowerment of women so that they could play their due role in the development of the country.
She was addressing at the signing ceremony of memorandum of understanding between Lahore College for Women University and UN WOMEN at LCWU, here today.
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Sabiha Mansoor, Dr. Saira Shahid, Muniba Hashmi and Country Head of UN WOMEN in Pakistan, Jamshaid Qazi also spoke on the occasion.
Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din said that elimination of gender discrimination is essential for the protection of women rights and promotion of education. She said that signing of MoU between UNWOMEN and Lahore College for Women University is a welcome step and will help in the economic empowerment of women. Country Head of UN WOMEN, Jamshaid Qazi in his address highlighted the challenges being faced by women and the role of UN-WOMEN in this regard. He appreciated the measures taken by Punjab government in the protection of women rights and provision of educational and health facilities to women. He also assured his full cooperation and assistance in this regard.
Later, representatives of Aurat Foundation, Awaz, Homenet and other social organizations met Hameeda Waheed ud Din. Director Aurat Foundation, Mumtaz Mughal appreciated the measures taken by the government for the protection of women rights as well as presented various proposals for further improvement in the relevant laws.
