Kilns Association to control the environmental pollution:Secretary Environment Punjab

Brick making Bhatta,brick kilnsLahore: Provincial Secretary Environment Dr. Iqbal Muhammad Chohan presided over an important meeting for eliminating pollution created due to brick kilns in which Chairman Brick Kilns Association Muhammad Shoaib Khan Niazi and other office-bearers attended.

Farooq Hameed Sheikh Director General, Naseem ur Rehman Director Environment, officers of SUPARCO, Industry, Aviation and other departments attended the meeting.

Prof. Dr. A.R. Saleemi, Member Environment Tribunal Punjab especially participated in the meeting. Environment Department gave a briefing to all experts for resolving old pollution problem. The experts requested Kilns Association to immediately stop using substandard fuel in kilns. It was also noticed that there is a need of bringing necessary technical changes inside the chimneys of existing kilns. Besides using good quality fuel, equipments of controlling smoke should be installed in the chimneys or the change in the structure of chimney should be brought on the pattern of India so that poisonous smoke could be controlled as this smoke causes fatal diseases whereas this industry despite at small scale is creating huge pollution. Dr. Iqbal Chohan requested Brick Kilns Association to take immediate steps in this regard.

Prof. Dr. A.R. Saleemi told the meeting that a number of cases of brick kilns are under trail in Environment Court and Environment Court has decided many cases and also proposed its solution. He said that kiln owners should be bound to ensure immediate implementation on these decisions.

Chairman Kilns Association Muhammad Shoaib Khan Niazi and other office-bearers assured complete cooperation to Punjab government and reiterated that Kilns Association will utilize all out resources for ensuring all possible steps to control the environmental pollution.
