Lahore: American Consul General Lahore, Zachary Harkenrider has said that Punjab Information Technology Board (PIBT) is making efforts for good governance through the use of modern technology.
He expressed these views during his visit to the office of PITB. Zachary Harkenrider said that the projects of PITB are playing an important role for resolving problems of illiteracy, disease, corruption, bribery, industrial and social growth and governance. During his visit to Plan 9 of PITB, he met the students and said that America is also extending cooperation to Pakistan in the promotion of small business and industry and Pakistan Private Investment Initiative and “Journey of Progress” are important projects.
Earlier, Dr. Omar Saif while giving briefing about PITB projects said that a strong foundation of information technology has been laid in the province. He said that PITB is implementing various projects such as dengue tracking system based on smart phone, surveillance of diseases, registration of crimes, registration of vehicles, attendance of teachers and students, vaccination and drug inspection, public feedback system, e-learn programme and automaton of a number of services and other projects which have yielded positive results. Fatal disease like dengue has been overcome in a short period and corruption has reduced to considerable extent, he added. He said that President World Bank during World Bank Day light dialogue held in Philippine has lauded over mobile governance reforms. Dr. Omar Saif also presented to distinguished guest.
